1. Contact Spectrum via Telephone: This may seem like an obvious step, but Spectrum and its affiliates do occasionally receive packages of coins or other collectibles that were not preceded by a telephone call to provide forewarning of the package's arrival. Worse yet, some of these packages have even arrived with no return address or other identifying features!
A telephone call is a crucial first step when selling coins, currency or wine as it enables us to get acquainted, gives you the opportunity to get comfortable with the Spectrum expert who will be handling your collectibles and provides us with the opportunity to begin to evaluate your holdings.
2. Send Spectrum a List of Your Coins, Notes and/or Wine: Once we have gotten acquainted through a telephone conversation, a likely next step would be for you to send us a more detailed list of your holdings. The list need not be exhaustive nor highly detailed, just as long as it provides what (in your best judgment) is a complete list of the coins and/or other collectibles that you are interested in selling. If you cannot identify something, just do your best to provide us with some idea as to what the item is and we will work with you to make a positive identification. The goal of this exercise is merely to provide us with the tools we need to determine the best way in which to meet your needs. The Spectrum expert with whom you have gotten acquainted will provide you with the best way of forwarding your list, whether it be via email, fax or U.S. Post Office.
3. Make an Appointment with a Spectrum Expert: If you live close to our Irvine, California headquarters, will be traveling to our area or otherwise would like to visit Spectrum to sell your collectibles, we welcome the opportunity to meet you in person. We also have buyers throughout the United States and in other countries, and frequently travel to industry conventions and other events throughout the country. The possibility exists, therefore, that a Spectrum expert may be in your area and able to meet with you at your home, bank or place of business to complete your transaction. For qualifying collections Spectrum will also make special arrangements to have one of our experts travel to you to purchase your rare coins, currency and/or fine wine.
4. Shipping Your Collectibles to Spectrum: There will be many occasions where you will ship your coins or other collectibles to Spectrum in order for us to complete the purchase.
You are responsible for insuring your collectibles. One way to do this is via Registered Mail through the United States Post Office, where you will declare the insurance value. This is a secure, fully insured process that people avail themselves of every day. The Post Office will tell you what needs to be done to make sure your package is insured.
You can also call Spectrum to inquire about additional methods and procedures for shipping your collectibles based upon exactly the types, quantity and value.
One point to always keep in mind: never write COINS, CURRENCY, NUMISMATICS, or a similar term on any package being sent to Spectrum so as not to draw unwanted attention to your shipment.
5. Receiving Payment: Once Spectrum makes an offer and you agree upon that offer, payment for your collectible is immediate. We have the financial resources and stability to complete any transaction as quickly as possible. Financial references and insurance verification for Spectrum Numismatics International are gladly provided and can be obtained by asking your Spectrum expert.
